Your stay at Glenegedale House begins with a true Islay welcome.
After being shown around so that you can get your bearings, we will take you to your room where you can unpack and settle in
There will be a welcoming tray of tea or coffee and some delicious home baking for you to enjoy in our cosy guest lounge or if you would prefer, we have a wide selection of Scottish gins and Islay malt whiskies to choose from.
During your stay here at Glenegedale House, you will often catch the warming aroma of Emma’s freshly baked cakes, bread and muffins. We both have a real passion for making the most amazing freshly baked treats for our guests to enjoy at every occasion.
If you are heading out for the day, we would be delighted to prepare a light snack/packed lunch in a basket for you to take with you. We use only the finest Scottish ingredients from small artisan producers.
We never compromise on quality at Glenegedale House and focus on sourcing the finest of Scotland’s larder. Our breakfast includes sausages from our local butcher, Alasdair Porter, Ramsay of Carluke’s hand reared, rare breed smoked back bacon, award-winning haggis and black pudding, and our own free range hen eggs from our happy hens that live at the rear of the house
Let us know if you’d like to see the hens that lay our delicious eggs and I’m sure we can arrange for you to meet the ladies themselves.
Another breakfast favourite is our large selection of delicately poached fruits; poached using fresh fruit and our own recipes. However, don’t forget to leave room for our famous porridge – done the Glenegedale Way.
A Scottish breakfast wouldn’t be the same without some smoked salmon. We source ours from the fabulous Argyll Smokery in Dunoon. It’s a small ethical smokehouse which hand smokes all their fish over reclaimed whisky barrel shavings. And we would definitely agree with them when they say that they “Simply improve on nature itself…”
Evenings at Glenegedale House are definitely a culinary highlight.
We offer a range of platters in the splendour of our dining room and these are always a triumph with our guests. The platters vary depending on seasonal availability of produce and your personal preferences.
Platters are served on the stave or top of a reclaimed whisky barrel from Islay, reminding us of the strong whisky heritage on Islay.
Each platter showcases the very best from small Scottish artisan producers. For example, you could be enjoying:
locally smoked charcuterie from the Great Glen Charcuterie or East Coast Cured Charcuterie – there is usually a choice, including green pepper venison salami, venison pork salami, smoked grouse breast, whole Scottish pork salami or beef bresaola
a selection of Scottish cheeses sourced and supplied by Iain Mellies, such as Auld Reekie smoked cheese (which pairs beautifully with an Islay malt – choose from our whisky list), Hebridean Blue from Mull, cheese from Loch Arthur, the fresh and nutty Lochnagar or the fabulous award-winning cheese from The Ethical Dairy which keep the calves with the cows and only uses excess milk for cheese production.
with a little notice, we can organise the most wonderful local seafood platter using Islay lobster, crab, hand-dived scallops, mussels and of course the most amazing Islay Oysters.
All platters are accompanied by homemade bread and oatcakes that fill the house with the most delicious aroma throughout the day as they bake. We also have a selection of Jean and George Miller’s fabulous Millers Larder chutneys.
To accompany the platters, you can choose from our small select wine list, or our Scottish gin and Islay whisky range.
